When you look in your mirror, have you notice that once beautiful, white teeth are becoming dull and yellowish? There are many ways your tooth enamel can become discolored. Not only are there loads of things that you eat and drink every day that can color your teeth, but age is also an uncontrollable contributor to yellowing teeth.
The happy news is that you don’t have to wish for a miracle fix to turn back time. These days, you simply need only drop by your local pharmacy or supermarket. There are plenty of tooth whitening products on the market and all are available on store shelves. Here are the options available:
Bleaching Toothpaste and Mouthwash
There are toothpastes and mouthwashes that contain hydrogen peroxide, a mild bleaching agent, to facilitate removal of yellowing stains on the surfaces of teeth. The toothpastes will have an abrasive element that also aids in eradicating color and bringing back the white while brushing.
Peroxide plastic strips with a special gel-filled agent that you apply to the outer surface of teeth. These can be used for a short period of time over several days for the desired effect, and can even be safely repeated per the manufacturer’s suggestion.
Teeth Whitening Trays
A little more involved, these tray-based kits include mouthguards that you fill with a peroxide-based gel which produces the whitening effect. Your dentist can suggest the type best for you, or provide you with a custom-made impression of your teeth in a take-home kit. This type can be used one time per day for around a half hour to an hour at a time.
Professional Teeth Whitening In-Office
To receive the best results, you’ll want to make an appointment with your dentist for an in-office whitening procedure. Your dentist can do in a visit what it might takes weeks for you to do by yourself from an over-the-counter kit. Your dentist will paint a protective coat to your lips and gum tissue. Afterwards, an industrial-strength whitening gel will be applied to your teeth and activated with UV light. The results will be noticed immediately.
